10 of the 11 former Confederate States previously observed Confederate Memorial Day on 3 June because it was Jefferson Davis’ birthday.
Today, a few states still celebrate Confederate Memorial Day and a few of them celebrate Jefferson Davis Day instead, but it amounts to much the same thing since Jefferson Davis was the first and only president of the Confederate States of America.
In Kentucky, Jefferson Davis Day has no official status, but many observe it anyway since Jefferson Davis was born in Kentucky.
On Jefferson Davis Day, there are special events put on by Confederate associations, and a Miss Confederacy is chosen at the birthplace of Davis within Jefferson Davis State Historic Park in Kentucky.
