On January 16, Idaho celebrates Idaho Human Rights Day in recognition of the struggle for human rights in the state. Like other states, Idaho struggled with prejudice and influences from segregationist groups like the Ku Klux Klan.
In an effort to demonstrate the state’s efforts to promote human rights, the state legislature created Idaho Human Rights Day. Each year, the state celebrates the holiday on the same day that the rest of the country celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on the third Monday in January.
