Michigan State Holidays
Discover upcoming public holiday dates for Michigan and start planning to make the most of your time off.
Michigan recognizes some holidays not recognized by the federal government. Lincoln’s Birthday is celebrated February 12 while Washington’s Birthday is celebrated on the third Monday in February, the date most states celebrate President’s Day.
The first Tuesday of November in even-numbered year is declared a holiday due to the General Election. Over the past few years, Lincoln’s Birthday has been celebrated on the day after Thanksgiving and Columbus Day on Christmas Eve.
Like most states, Michigan does not require employers to pay premium rates if an employee is required to work on holidays nor does it require a business to provide paid holidays. However, most businesses in Michigan offer at least six paid holidays as a benefit to employees.
