Missouri celebrates Lincoln’s birthday on February 12 and President’s Day on the third Monday in February. The governor may also decree the Friday after Thanksgiving as a holiday for state employees in Missouri. Lincoln celebrates Jefferson Day on April 13 in honor of Thomas Jefferson.
Truman Day is celebrated on May 8 each year in the state. This holiday is in honor of Harry S. Truman who became President of the United States upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945. Truman led the United States through the end of World War II. The holiday was established because Truman was born in Missouri and returned to the state after he left the White House.
In Missouri, state employees are entitled to paid holidays for those recognized by the federal government as well as any established by the state government. Private employers are not required to provide paid holidays to employees. However, most employers in Missouri provide at least six paid holidays to their employees.
