Nebraska State Holidays
Discover upcoming public holiday dates for Nebraska and start planning to make the most of your time off.
There are some differences in the holidays celebrated in Nebraska and other states in the country. Nebraska considers Arbor Day to be a holiday and celebrates it on the last Friday in April. The day after Thanksgiving is considered a holiday in Nebraska as well. Except for Veteran’s Day, if the date of a holiday in Nebraska is different than what is determined by the federal government, the federal holiday is observed.
According to Nebraska law, state offices are closed on legal holidays and all employees are paid for the time off. However, private employers are not required by state law to give employees paid days off on a holiday. In addition, if an employee is required to work on a holiday, the employer is not required to pay them a higher rate simply because it is a holiday.
Although private employers are not legally required to do so, most in Nebraska do offer paid holidays to employees. Many also offer overtime pay or higher rates on holidays to compensate employees who work on holidays as well. Others may offer other days off during the year to compensate for an employee who must work on a holiday.
