There will be seven extended holiday weekends to choose from in Rhode Island in 2018. This includes not only the usual federal holiday weekends but also a long weekend created by Victory Day, which is celebrated only in Rhode Island.

Victory Day, on Monday, August 13th, commemorates the de facto end of World War II with the capitulation of Japan after the atom bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. It is a controversial holiday but one that was once observed by other states as well.
