Montana State Holidays

Discover upcoming public holiday dates for Montana and start planning to make the most of your time off.

Montana recognizes federal holidays including Memorial Day, Columbus Day and Veteran’s Day. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, it is celebrated the following day. In addition, the state has determined that all Sundays are a legal holiday.

During even-numbered years, the Tuesday after the first Monday in November is declared a holiday for the General Election in Montana. Offices and some businesses are closed to allow employees the opportunity to vote. The third Monday in February is celebrated as President’s Day, combining Lincoln and Washington’s birthday into one holiday.

Montana law does not require any private employer to provide paid holidays to any employee. However, most employers allow at least six paid holidays to employees as a benefit. Some also offer higher rates of pay on holidays or time off at another time of the year to encourage employees to work on holidays.
