California State Holidays

Discover upcoming public holiday dates for California and start planning to make the most of your time off.

All federal holidays are celebrated in California, including Labor Day, New Year’s Day and Veteran’s Day. In addition, California recognizes the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday.

California also celebrates Cesar Chavez Day. The holiday is celebrated on March 31 in honor of a migrant farm worker who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, focusing attention on the plight of migrant farm workers in the United States. There has been a recent push to make Cesar Chavez Day a national holiday.

If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is celebrated on the day before and if it falls on a Sunday, it is celebrated the day after.
